A tribute to passionate aspiring actors that chronicles the journey of three unrelated souls, who dream to make it big in Bollywood.
The plot encompasses a guy working at a call-centre in Delhi, a middle-aged government servant from Bhilai and a sex worker from Sonagachi Kolkata.
Vishnu Srivastava a 52 year old man wants to go to Mumbai to become an actor. All his life he has been an ideal husband, loving father who has just married off his only daughter and realizes that the time has come to fulfill his long, long cherished dreams. I have taken retirement from my job… Bollywood is waiting for me.
The instant reaction comes from his wife that its too late in life for him to try it out in films. Vishnu justifies his action mentioning the examples of Amrish Puri and Boman Irani who were well past their 40s when they entered Bollywood. This was the extent of Vishnu Srivastava.
The other story is that of a middle class youth working in a call centre who supports his family, his dad, mom and a young brother. Rohit get the chance to enrol in the Reality show that shortlists candidates from all over. Initially the judges make a mockery of him considering him as a good TRP material. However in the subsequent rounds, Rohit’s raw passion instills fear in their minds.
Third protagonist is Imli (Raima Sen) from Sonagachi in Kolkata. Her passion for Bollywood is such that she puts her life earnings at stake (which were accumulated to pay for her daughter’s boarding school admission) only to be conned by a Mumbai based film director.
These three pivotal characters are unrelated individuals – all three of them aspire to become Bollywood actors and the movie captures their journey and struggles.
With their sheer passion and perseverance, they bend over backwards to carve their name in Bollywood. Abiding by the saying, “Live your dream”, they go beyond their conventional life.
Raima Sen excels in this drama. She is effortless and natural as Imli. While Rohit’s character seems a bit outdated, it is again Ashish Vidyarthi who superbly depicts the unfilfilled hidden dreams of thousands of men in the remotest parts of India.
Bollywood Diaries depicts the hope, sorrow, loss and regret of these passionate strugglers and in the end it is heart wrenching to see their unsuccessful attempts and shattered dreams.
